Follow Your Convictions
*The Livestream was cut short, so my notes are attached
The focus today is how we can have harmony and unity in the church while still holding opposing views on secondary biblical issues. In this chapter, Paul addresses opposing views on meat eating, holiday celebrations, and wine drinking. The solution to such disagreements is that each believer must be fully convinced that their view glorifies God while at the same time understanding that your brother has the freedom to hold an opposing view because they must follow teachings of the Bible as they understand them, because they answer to God, not you. Being fully convinced means that you are able to defend your opinion, you live according to your opinion without hypocrisy, and you understand that you will give account to God for the opinion you have chosen. Then, for the sake of unity, you must not allow your divergent views to become divisive in the church. Again, this is regarding secondary issues, not issues of orthodoxy, such as Christ being the only way to heaven.
