The Sinless Substitute

Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15

Devotional: Jesus lived the only perfectly sinless life in human history. He never entertained a lustful thought, never spoke gossip, never acted selfishly. He was tempted in every way we are, yet remained without sin. This matters profoundly because the penalty for sin demanded a perfect sacrifice—equal in value to what was lost in Eden. None of us possessed the innocence required to pay our debt. Only Jesus could stand in our place. On the cross, something incomprehensible occurred: the Sinless One became sin. God gathered every rebellious thought, every selfish desire, every act of defiance from all His people across all time and heaped it upon Christ. Meditate today on this staggering reality: Jesus didn't just die for you; He became your sin so you could become His righteousness.

Reflection Question: How does the concept of imputation, where our sins were transferred to Christ and His righteousness was transferred to us, deepen your understanding of what happened on the cross?
