Remembering Our Commitments
Reading: Deuteronomy 7:6-11; 2 Peter 1:3-11
Devotional: Joshua reminded the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh: "Remember the word that Moses commanded you." Covenant people are remembering people. We forget our commitments when circumstances become difficult or when our immediate needs are met. When you trusted Christ, you committed to dying to self. When you married, you vowed faithfulness through all circumstances. When you joined the church, you committed to covenant community. What's preventing you from keeping those covenants today? Consumer Christianity says, "What can I get?" Covenant Christianity says, "How can I serve?" The difference is profound. Consumers leave when their needs aren't met; covenant members stay because they've made a promise, not primarily to people, but to God.
Reflection: Reflect on the commitments you've made: to Christ, to your spouse, to your church family. Which covenant needs renewed attention? Ask God to give you the strength and courage to honor your word, regardless of the cost.
