Measuring Sin Against God's Holiness
Reading: Joshua 7:13-26; 1 Peter 1:13-16
Devotional: We minimize our sin by comparing it to others' failures or measuring it by worldly standards. Achan thought, "It's just a cloak, some silver, a bar of gold." But God sees differently. When measured against His infinite holiness, no sin is small. Peter reminds us, "Be holy, because I am holy" (1 Peter 1:16). God held Israel to a higher standard than the Canaanites, not because He loved them less, but because He loved them more. As believers, we carry God's name and reputation. The world watches how we live and judges our God accordingly.
Reflection: Stop asking, "How bad is this really?" and start asking, "How does this offense against a holy God?" Your private compromises become public testimonies. Let God's holiness, not human comparison, be your measuring stick for righteousness.
